Damaged Care: What do we get with our health care spending?
Stephen Bezruchka, M.D., M.P.H.

Saturday, February 4, 2006, 7:30 PM
Riverside Community Church
Fourth Street & State Avenue, in downtown Hood River, Oregon

The U.S. spends the most money on health care – almost $2 trillion, half of the world's total, each year – but ranks 29th among nations in life expectancy. People who live in countries that spend far less on health care have better health than we do. What’s the real difference? The increasing economic gap between our country’s rich and poor. It’s our greatest health hazard.

Dr. Bezruchka prescribes a healthy lifestyle that includes working for economic justice. Being an active public citizen is good for your health.

Dr. Bezruchka is a physician and Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Washington. He received UW's Outstanding Teacher Award in 2002. He is a contributor to Sickness and Wealth: The Corporate Assault on Global Health and author of numerous journal articles that explore the disconnect between true “health” and our “health care” system. His recorded presentation, “Health and Wealth,” for Alternative Radio, is their #1 bestseller.

Sponsored by La Clínica del Cariño Family Health Care Centers in Hood River and The Dalles, Oregon. For twenty years, La Clínica del Cariño has served people whose economic, cultural, or social conditions would otherwise keep them from getting primary health care.
