About

Columbia River Fellowship for Peace (CRFP) is a not-for-profit peace and justice group serving communities in the Mid-Columbia region of Oregon and Washington.

Mission Statement

The Columbia River Fellowship for Peace is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to peace and justice on several levels: self, family, school, workplace, and community. We give emotional support, share information, promote nonviolent conflict resolution, and act to rid ourselves of the global threat of militarization. By making this commitment, we vitalize the creative potential within all of us and work to ensure our survival as a living planet.

History

Founded in the late 1970's in Hood River, Oregon, the Columbia River Fellowship for Peace established itself as a resource for the Mid-Columbia community through its participation in a number of timely issues. Members have worked on projects including the designation of the city of Hood River as a Nuclear Free Zone, participation in peace fairs and antiwar vigils, and the presentation of speakers with a focus on progressive concerns. CRFP has hosted visits of NW Veterans for Peace to area high schools, and sponsored local youth for attendance at the Fellowship of Reconciliation’s Peacemaker Training Institute.

The tragic events of September 11 mobilized people across the Mid-Columbia community. Recognizing the need for reflection, commitment and action, individuals interested in promoting a thoughtful and appropriate response to the attacks came together through CRFP and are now engaged in a variety of educational and cultural projects.

Our Community Dialogue Forums have drawn large audiences anxious to hear educational, legal and alternative media experts and activists present information on topics ranging from the War in Afghanistan, the religion of Islam, Civil Liberties and the Patriot Act, to the local history of the Hood River Valley Japanese-Americans interned during WWII.

Most recently, Columbia River Fellowship for Peace is working to increase dialogue regarding unmanned aerial vehicles (i.e., drones).  Speakers and letters to editors have been instrumental to keeping the dialogue continuing.

CRFP supplies Gorge area libraries and schools with videotapes of our forums on these important topics to promote ongoing dialogue and outreach.
